Tom Flynn, Erie Steel Heat Treating 1948-2025

“Thomas P. Flynn “Gentleman Mr. Flynn” “Johnny Fights” 76 of Temperance, Michigan, passed away, Sunday, May 4, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Tom was born on October 24 1948, in Flint, Michigan, and was the son of Philip and Helen (Koval) Flynn. Tom was a 1966 graduate from Central Catholic High School. Tom met the love of his life, Barbara Hull and they were married on July 16, 1976 in Toledo, Ohio.
 
Tom began his working life as an auto mechanic, which he did to purchase his sports cars. He then went on to become a boilermaker. In 1986 he finally was convinced by his father to join the family business, Erie Steel Heat Treating. He retired then returned to Erie Steel, where he remained until his death.
 
Tom enjoyed camping with his nightly beer and stogie, Tom had been camping at Interlochen State Park first as a young boy with his parents and siblings and in later years when he had his very own family. Tom made met many of his life-long friends at Interlochen State Park and later at Great Circle Campground. He also enjoyed touring on his motorcycle, his many trips to Cozumel and attending and watching sporting events including the Detroit Lions and The Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Tom was a regular patron on Wednesdays at Pavlov’s with his son Aaron.
 
Tom’s main love was his family but most importantly spending his time at all of Payton’s “Peanut” volleyball games who was his pride and joy. Tom was the greatest husband and the greatest father. Tom was also the ultimate brother. Tom is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dave Flynn, brother-in-law, Mike Schira and his niece, Megan Gibbons.
 
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Barbara; children, Abbey and Aaron (Angie) Flynn; granddaughter, Payton “Peanut” Flynn; sisters, Mary Schira and Terri Bowles; brothers, Dan (Kay) and Pat (Nancy) Flynn; brother-in-law, Bob (Judy) Hull and nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
 
Visitation will be from 11:00 am – 4:00 pm Friday, May 9, 2025, at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI, where funeral services will be at 4:00 pm.
