Gas Turbine Industry Continues to Add Vacuum Furnace Capacity

SECO/WARWICK is supplying its tenth Vector vacuum furnace to a partner for producing high-performance gas turbine components essential for modern energy stability. Why are vacuum furnaces so important for today’s energy sector?

The furnace will be used to produce gas turbine components, among the most advanced structures in the energy sector. Gas turbines often operate at temperatures exceeding 1300°C, and their key components, such as blades and flow path elements, must withstand extreme temperatures, material fatigue and oxidation. That is why the heat-treatment processes for these parts require very clean vacuum conditions, stable temperature control and high process repeatability.
The Partner’s technology fleet includes approximately 50,000 wind turbines and more than 7,000 gas turbines. Solutions of this scale require technology partners capable of delivering world-class production equipment.
The unit on order is based on the proven design of Vector vacuum furnaces. The furnace has a working space of 1200 × 1200 × 1800 mm (47.2″ × 47.2″ × 70.9″), enabling the heat treatment of large components used in gas turbine production.
The furnace can operate with three process gases: hydrogen, argon and nitrogen. Two cooling gases, argon and nitrogen, are also used, allowing cooling parameters to be flexibly adjusted to the specific process. The unit features a round heating chamber with excellent temperature distribution at +/- 5°C (±9°F).
