Recently we mentioned how Mr. Víctor M. Calderón Cabrera, who was Heat Treat Engineering Manager at Caterpillar, Inc., in Monterrey, Mexico made our list of the “Most Influential in the North American Heat Treating Industry”. “Víctor M. Calderón Cabrera, Heat Treat Engineering Manager en Caterpillar Inc. Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico. Victor has quite an impressive background in the captive heat treating industry in Mexico having worked with some of the giants such as Tremec, Meritor and SISAMEX (we could write a book about the in house heat treating department of each of these companies but that is a story for another day). Since 2016 Victor has been Heat Treat Engineering Manager at Caterpillar in Monterrey, Mexico-Caterpillar is probably the largest in house heat treater in all of North America. He was recently featured on “Heat Treat Podcast” speaking with Mr. Carlos Torres of MATTSA.” 30 Most Influential People in The North American Heat Treating Industry 2021 | The Monty

Very shortly after this was posted we learned that Víctor received a promotion and is now Advanced Materials Technology México Manager, a position where he will be responsible for Heat Treat, Metallurgical, Met Lab, Chemical Lab and Non-Destructive Testing at ACM México. In our humble opinion we believe that Víctor is very deserving of this position. In the past “The Monty Heat Treat News” has ranked Caterpillar as the largest captive heat treater in North America 10 Largest North American Captive Heat Treaters | The Monty Our file photos provided this picture of Víctor and Gord Montgomery of “The Monty” taken in Mexico in 2016.

A North American manufacturer with an in house heat treating department recently found they needed larger capacity equipment to heat treat their aluminum components. Subsequently larger equipment was installed and the existing equipment has become surplus. Due to space constraints the owner had made the painful decision that the equipment must be removed ASAP which means all offers will be considered. What is available is a horizontal quench aluminum furnace with working dimensions of 40” X 40” X 40” originally manufactured by Despatch, a Gruenberg Walk In Oven 450F and a GM Batch furnace with working dimensions of 24″ x 24″ x 36″ and an external water quench tank. The equipment is not new but complete, installed and ready to go. If you would like more information [email protected]

In the North American commercial heat treating industry we find Mr. John Levensky who for a number of years now has been selling heat treating services for companies such as Mil-Spec Heat Treating/ Delta Heat Treating. John very recently made a change and is now working for one of our favorite commercial heat treats in the western US, Phoenix Heat Treat in Phoenix, Arizona. Phoenix is a full service heat treater and you can find all the details here https://www.phoenix-heat-treating.com/ . We searched high and low for some good photos and the best we came up with was this one which shows the President of the company, Mr. Pete Hushek in front of one of this vacuum furnaces.

We seldom have news items about heat treatment in France so when we received this one we jumped at the chance to use it. Senior Aerospace is a supplier of metal bellows for high end industries such as the aerospace, space and nuclear industries and the company has over 6,000 employees around the world. The Senior Aerospace facility in Dourdan, France has achieved ISO 9001, AS/EN 9100, ISO 14001 and NADCAP certifications for their various processes including heat treating. What we see in these pictures is an Italian made TAV vacuum furnace being installed at the plant just 3 weeks ago.

Down Pennsylvania, USA way we see that one of the largest commercial heat treaters in the area, Peters Heat Treating in Meadville, PA has just received Nadcap Certification for Heat Treating along with AC7004 Aerospace Quality System accreditation. Well good for them, this represents a major investment in time and money but one which will pay off in the long run. Over the years we have mentioned the company several times, including back in July 2020 when the company issued the press release below. One of the photos below was taken when we visited the company not that long ago-the distinguished fellow shown is none other than Doug Peters the founder of the company.

“July 2020 Update; Peters’ Heat Treating, Inc. Moves to Expanded Facility

Peters’ Heat Treating, Inc. has closed its original home of 40 years in the Fifth Ward of Meadville and moved its headquarters into a newly expanded Meadville facility in West Mead Township in the old rail yard on McHenry Street. Peters’ Heat Treating was already operating from this location which housed their production oil hardening business but with an 18,000 square foot addition, they were able to consolidate the two Meadville locations and move the precision vacuum furnaces, black oxide line and other flagship processes to a new custom space. The now 32,000 square foot manufacturing space allows them to expand their product offerings and continue to grow the now 60-employee business. They have just recently announced two new lines of business: Aluminum Alloy Processing and Stainless Steel Black Oxide. They also continue to operate from their McKean, PA location servicing the local Erie area and including a specialized Nitreg Nitriding process.

Peters’ Heat Treating finalized the move just one week before shutdowns began in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. While they were able to remain open with a state waiver due to their work in life-essential industries such as medical and military, the pandemic thwarted plans for a big Grand Opening event in June. They were able to celebrate with their team with a Crawford County Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cutting this month. They hope to give tours when it is safe to do so again. “We are excited to consolidate our services and knowledge in a way that maintains our history and dedication to the local community and industry while providing us the runway for a successful future,” Andy Wilkosz, President, said. “These current times are challenging but we know our business and the country will persevere.”

Peters’ Heat Treating has had several exciting announcements in the last year. They celebrated their 40th Anniversary in October of 2019. They also named a new President, Andy Wilkosz, in February of 2019, son-in-law of founders Doug and Jackie Peters. Daughter Diana (Peters) Wilkosz and husband, Andy, returned home to learn the business in 2015. Andy’s degrees in Engineering and Business as well as his past roles as a U.S. Steel Manager, Process Safety Management consultant and Special Projects Engineer at another heat treat in Texas made him the perfect fit for the role. Diana oversees Office and Administrative functions. Son Christopher Peters also works at the company managing its IT. Doug and Jackie are thrilled to keep the company in the family and to continue to service the local community. “It’s just been a pleasure to be a part of the local community and to help companies grow,” Peters said. “Probably the thing I’m most proud of is the great people I’ve had the opportunity to work with. I’ve watched them buy houses and have children, and now their kids are having children.” Doug and Jackie are both still active but look forward to future retirement.

Peters’ Heat Treating, Inc. is a diverse heat treating company that specializes in a variety of high tech heat treating processes making it a leader in the precision parts heat treating industry. The company services the tristate region and industries including aerospace, automotive, defense, nuclear, molding, tool & die and more. Processing capabilities include: vacuum processing, neutral hardening, carburizing, gas nitriding, cryogenics, annealing, stress relieving, black oxide coating, induction processing, sandblasting, integrated straightening and metallurgical testing, as well as laser heat treating in partnership with Laser Hard, Inc. Peters’ is compliant to ISO 9001:2015, Federal Firearms guidelines and International Traffic & Arms Regulations.
