“The Monty Heat Treat News” Monday Morning Briefing

For Monday, September 18th “The Monty Heat Treat News” provides our readers with these heat treatment items;

Noxmat GMBH. Furnace heating experts Noxmat is expanding their Oederan, Germany location. The additional space which will be used for both production and storage is desperately needed as the company is finding business to be very good. These two photos show an overview of the new addition as well as the groundbreaking. Noxmat offers both gas and electric heating options. To learn more about the company we would suggest this interview which “The Monty Heat Treat News” did with Matt Wolf, CEO of the company in June of this year.

Industrial Heating Magazine. As we mentioned earlier this year Industrial Heating Magazine is no more with the last issue being in August. Rather a shame to see the end of over 90 years of publication but over the past few years it appeared the magazine was losing it’s focus and was trying to be “all things to all people” with an emphasis more on the steel and recycling industries than real heat treating.

Nickel Pricing. Now this graph will bring joy to the hearts of all heat treaters everywhere in the world. As we all know nickel is the main factor in fluctuating alloy pricing. This chart will tell you that nickel pricing is at it’s lowest level in a year. Happy days are here again.

What is happening in the Canadian Commercial Heat Treatment Industry? As most of our readers know “The Monty Heat Treat News” is based in Canada which means we know the Canadian heat treat market backwards and forwards and what we are seeing these days are substantial changes in the market. These changes can be best summarized by saying the bigger players are getting bigger and the smaller companies are, well getting smaller or disappearing. Within the next year two very small commercial shops in Ontario (both with sales between $1 and $2 million CDN) will be gone and by gone we mean they will be selling off their assets and closing down. Meanwhile we are assuming a third commercial heat treat which has not yet entered production but who has been investing for the past 3 years will never get off the ground. We hope we are wrong but we rather doubt it.

AFC-Holcroft Preparing to Ship Batch Austemper Furnaces. Furnace builder AFC-Holcroft based in Wixom, Michigan is preparing to ship two UBQA furnaces (Universal Batch Integral Quench Austemper). Both furnaces have working dimensions of 36” X 72” X 36” and are going to customers in the US Midwest.

Oxygen Probe Manufacturer on Top of The World. In Switzerland we find oxygen probe manufacturer “Econox”, Mr. Cyril Bregnard, owner. The last time “The Monty Heat Treat News” met with Cyril was at the recent Thermprocess exhibition in Dusseldorf, Germany in June. Since that time Cyril has been busy-he recently hoisted the Econox flag on the to of Mt. Kilimanjaro, in Africa.
