Stackpole Powder Metal Group Acquires Zimmermann of Germany

You might ask why this news item deserves to grace the pages of “The Monty Heat Treat News”. The reason is simple, Stackpole was almost the first company in the world to adopt vacuum carburizing for powdered metal transmission components and has several very large in house heat treating departments at a number of their locations. The company maintains a very large ALD vacuum carburizing system at their Automotive Gear Division.
 
“Stackpole Powder Metal Group is pleased to announce the acquisition of E. Zimmermann GmbH (“Zimmermann”), located in Oehringen, state of Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany by Stackpole Powertrain International GmbH (Aachen, Germany).

 
Zimmermann is a specialist in the field of innovative and flexible manufacturing processes in the machining of differential housings and crankshaft bearing cups in for the automotive industry. In 2020, Zimmermann’s sales were EUR16.4 million (USD20.0 million), with a headcount of 130 employees. The company was founded in 1970 by Mr. Eberhard Zimmermann and has been managed since 1997 by his son and daughter, Rolf and Ute Zimmermann.

Zimmermann’s manufacturing expertise and geographic footprint, as well as long-standing customer relationships in Germany, will have synergy with Stackpole’s powder metal technology, multinational operations and customer base. The combination of Zimmermann’s knowledge of machining of differential housings and the Stackpole powder metal expertise and global resources provides the Powder Metal Business Unit with a unique opportunity. The acquisition will accelerate our machining know-how into the evolving sector of new energy vehicles with innovative powertrain requirements, including new power transmission systems.
