Specialty Heat Treat Adds Straightening to 1,000 Tons
Earlier this year Dale and Gord Montgomery of “The Monty Heat Treat News” visited one of the 50 largest commercial heat treaters in North America, family owned Specialty Heat Treat in Houston, Texas (the story can be found at https://themonty.com/heat-treating-in-texas-is-different-specialty-heat-treat/).
In that story we mentioned how the company was very close to bringing a 1,000 ton straightening press online-it is now a reality as you can see in this press release;
“Specialty Heat Treat, Inc. Houston Texas now provides straightening capability to 1000 Tons. Pictured here is our new press at work on a 13” solid 8630 bar. Surface hardness is 341 BHN. Yield strength is 153,000 at mid wall!! Specialty now provides our customers with finish straightening operations for the larger material sizes that are becoming more common in the energy sector. Specialty offers straightening for small bars on a super fast 18 ton press, a 150 ton press handles the 2” to 3” range, mid sized bars and tubes are straightened on one of two 250 ton presses, and heavy bars and tubes run on one of two 400 ton presses, and now 1000 tons is available.”
