Item # VF450 ALD “Modultherm” LPC System (Gas/Oil Quenching)

Manufactured by ALD-Holcroft ( a joint venture between AFC-Holcroft & ALD) in 2008 this is a very unusual and highly sought after offering, a “Modultherm” vacuum carburizing (Low Pressure Carburizing, LPC) system.

Built in 2008 the heat treatment system is comprised of 7 modules. The various modules include a pre-wash station, a pre-oxidation or temper oven, a heat treatment chamber, oil and gas quench modules, a dedicated post-wash and finally a moving, hot transfer car that picks and places the loads in and out of each module.

The transfer shuttle is unique from any other Modultherm because it is not only heated, but it rotates 180⁰ to access modules on both sides of its tracks. This allows to expand the system with more tempering ovens and treatment chamber. The transfer shuttle being heated and in vacuum prevent the parts from losing heat during the transfer, and many TUS’s have proven the temperature fluctuation at this time to be insignificant.

This transfer shuttle is also in vacuum so when transferring a load from heat to the gas or oil quench, no contaminants can enter the vacuum environment. The same can be said about the oil quench. The transfer shuttle has multiple sets of forks so it will never have to bring a dirty, oily load into a heat or vacuum chamber. This prevents cross-contamination of the chambers.
