It is with fear and trepidation that many heat treaters regard nickel pricing. Alloy furnace components and fixturing always represent a substantial cost to any heat treater and the largest factor in fluctuating pricing is due to the cost of nickel. This year has been a roller coaster ride for nickel as you can see it in these two graphs showing the price of nickel over the course of 1 year and 5 years. Luckily since a dramatic spike in March of this year pricing has slowly being dropping and appears to be settling into a more stable position.
