While pit carburizing furnaces are reasonably common in most of Europe they have never enjoyed quite as much popularity in North America. Granted there are a reasonable number in NA largely used for heat treating of large gears and long shafts (mining is a perfect example). So a recent rumor about a large order for pit carburizing furnaces being placed by a firm in the US caught our attention. We are trying to confirm the rumor and hope to have an update later this week. In the meantime we will leave you with these images of a very large pit furnace installation which “The Monty Heat Treat News” visited late in 2022. These pictures were taken at a commercial heat treater by the name of Dominal in the Netherlands last October.
