“MARCH 2022, Metalsa Perfektools Adds HTCM (heat treatment cross member). The HTCM process is the newest heat treatment process at Metalsa Perfektools and began operation December 2021. Metalsa is a company focused on the automotive industry with the manufacturing of chassis for customers such as Stellantis, Toyota, Paccar and others. At our Perfektools plant our process of heat treatment is focused on the production of cross members to be used for chassis in commercial vehicles-a heat treatment process unique to Latin America. This tempering process is very unusual in that it is carried out with water rather than oil.”

“AICHELIN SERVICE AND NOXMAT SUCCESSFULLY MANAGE LARGE-SCALE PROJECT JUNE 28, 2022; In only two weeks’ time and during active operation, the service experts of AICHELIN SERVICE and NOXMAT have switched over 1,600 gas burner systems from Lower Calorific to High-Calorific natural gas for their customer thyssenkrupp Rasselstein GmbH in Andernach/Rhineland-Palatinate
thyssenkrupp Rasselstein GmbH is a subsidiary of thyssenkrupp Steel Europe AG and as the only German supplier, they provide the largest production site worldwide for packaging steels. There are several continuous-type and batch-annealing plants in use for production in Andernach/Rhineland-Palatinate
The changing market in terms of natural gas supply required thyssenkrupp Rasselstein to make comprehensive changes to all gas burner systems in production. thyssenkrupp Rasselstein commissioned AICHELIN Service GmbH and their affiliate company NOXMAT GmbH with this complex and time-sensitive task, thanks to their extensive expertise in this area. The two companies had already proven their high service availability as well as their cooperative partnership during a previous project regarding a security update for the batch annealing plants.
The schedule was challenging: The conversion of the burner systems had to be completed within only two weeks, and during active operation of the plants. After that, another week was scheduled for production support and optimization. A constant working temperature had to be guaranteed during the conversion and adjustment of the burners during running operation, in order to provide constant and high product quality. Up to five mixed teams with a total of 10 employees from AICHELIN Service and NOXMAT were on site for this project, supported by several thyssenkrupp Rasselstein employees to constantly monitor the temperature of the control station. To coordinate amongst each other across several levels of plants, and to guarantee smooth communication across the teams, the AICHELIN Service and NOXMAT service managers provided for a radio connection to the thyssenkrupp Rasselstein control station.
During this perfectly orchestrated service assignment, all burner systems at thyssenkrupp Rasselstein were updated even before the end of the scheduled 2-week period. After the conversion, the service team provided production support for another week and monitored and fine-tuned several load ranges.
Torsten Schmitt, expert and engineer in charge of electrics for the maintenance of conveyor plants at thyssenkrupp Rasselstein, is very satisfied with the project and says, “For such an ambitious and time-sensitive project, it’s essential to have a dependable service partner. The cooperation with AICHELIN Service and NOXMAT was characterized by extremely focused communication, and as partners we saw eye to eye. We are very happy that the burner conversion went so smoothly and quickly.”

We very much regret to mention the unexpected passing of Mr. Dennis Hansen of Fenton, Michigan. Dennis worked with his father John Hansen (now deceased) from 1998 until 2017 at Manufacturers rep firm Met-Pro in Michigan, USA. Met-Pro (now run by Aaron Ackermann) represents some of the best known names in the North American heat treatment industry such as controls company Super Systems Inc., and alloy firm Wirco. The team at WG Montgomery Ltd. had the privilege of working with Dennis numerous times over the years and always enjoyed the time we spent with him. He will be missed.

An in house heat treater who produces tool steels has just taken delivery of a very large, horizontal tempering furnace with a nitriding option. The manufacturer of the furnace, KGO reports that this is one of the largest units they have built with working dimensions of 2.4m X 1.4m X 1m (7’ X 4’ X 3’), Model #VA 24-14-12G. While this is described as a temper furnace the end customer who is located near Cologne, Germany elected to include the nitriding option. Mr. Pat Gosselin Promoted to Vice President Surface Treatments Division of VAC AERO. Based in Oakville, Ontario, Canada VAC AERO is well known as a manufacturer of vacuum furnaces, a substantial commercial heat treater specializing in the aerospace industry and as a coating expert. Long time employee Pat Gosselin in the Boucherville, Quebec facility was recently promoted to Vice President Surface Treatments Division.
Tyler Goodwin Appointed Maintenance Manager Bodycote, Indianapolis, IN, USA. Heat Treating giant Bodycote recently appointed Mr. Tyler Goodwin Maintenance Manager at their Indianapolis, IN facility. Tyler has spent many years in the industry including previous experience with Bluewater and Bodycote.
Staying with Bodycote we see that Mr. Guy Burnett recently started a new position as Pyro Technician at the Bodycote location in Compton, California. Previous to this Guy was with another prominent local heat treater, Thermal-Vac Technology in Orange, CA.
In Houston, Texas, USA Worldwide Heat Treat has been adding people. Worldwide is owned and run by Robert Gutierrez who has a long history in the heat treatment industry in Texas. Recently the company appointed Mr. Scott Licklider Business Development Manager-Scott is a real experienced guy with over 35 years in the industry working with firms such as FPM Heat Treat in the Chicago area.
Worldwide also recently hired Mr. Oscar Beas as Quality Assurance Manager-Oscar is another experienced heat treater-our ultimate compliment at “The Monty Heat Treat News”.
