For those in the high temperature alloy component and furnace fixturing industry in North America this is an extremely interesting press release.
Wm. Wright & Associates, Incorporated in the Chicago, USA area is one of the oldest heat treat rep firms in North America as they were established in 1958. For many years now they have also had the distinction of being quite possibly the largest rep firm in North America when it comes to sales of heat treatment fixturing and furnace components. “As part of a management reorganization, AFC-Holcroft has announced Tracy Dougherty and Ronald Waligora will share leadership responsibility as dual Chief Operating Officers. Dougherty, formerly Vice President of Sales, has been named Chief Operating Officer in charge of Sales, Applications, Marketing and Aftermarket Sales while Waligora, formerly Senior Engineering Manager, has been named Chief Operating Officer for Project Management, Engineering, Manufacturing and Field Services. Both have spent many years working for the company, and both are active in AFC-Holcroft’s professional membership organizations such as the Metal Treating Institute and ASM International.

Japanese auto parts supplier Denso Manufacturing recently closed their substantial facility in Marysville, Tenesee, USA with the end result that all of the equipment is being auctioned off with a deadline for sealed bids today, May 5th. In addition to the machining equipment there was also a reasonably impressive heat treat department which included 3 AFC-Holcroft roller hearth annealing furnaces and a 4500 CFH Endothermic generator. “The Monty Heat Treat News” gives it 50/50 that the roller hearth furnaces will be sold as opposed to being scrapped out. The generator will be long gone.

April 30th of this year “The Monty Heat Treat News” posted a news item entitled “Why do Manufacturers Bring Heat Treatment In House-Castool”. Several readers pointed out that another factor that went into this decision had to do with the cost of the overall project. We can safely assume that the overall cost of this project was somewhere between $10 and $20 million USD, most likely roughly in the middle. At the end of the day only a handful of commercial heat treaters in North America have the resources to invest in a project this size. In 2022 we had a posting about one of the largest commercial heat treaters in North America investing in a new 6 bar vacuum furnace. We can now say that the furnace is up and running and we have these pictures showing the finished product.
We now have word that the company continues to invest and recently ordered a brand new 6 bar quenching, Turbotreater horizontal vacuum furnace from Ipsen which features an all metal hot zone. The furnace which is expected to arrive in June of this year represents a very substantial financial investment.”

“Solar Atmospheres of Western PA recently vacuum degassed 175,000 pounds of 6Al-4V titanium in their 48-foot-long vacuum furnace. The furnace load consisted of 154 sheets of titanium 40” wide X 240” long. It represented the largest and heaviest single load of titanium ever processed in Solar’s history.
